Two Seriously Injured in DUI Crash near Williams

A 20-year-old Williams man remains in critical condition after his pickup truck overturned, said the California Highway Patrol.

The rollover occurred on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Abel Road, just west of Husted Road in Williams.

Asuncion Hernandez, 20 of Williams, was driving a 2001 GMC pickup westbound on Abel Road, just east of Husted Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred due to Hernandez’s level of intoxication, he allowed his truck to drift off the north shoulder of the road.

As Hernandez entered the road shoulder, he subsequently steered his vehicle sharply in an attempt remain on the paved portion of the roadway causing the vehicle to travel in a southern direction across both lanes of Abel Road.

The truck continued out of control and collided with a drainage ditch on the south shoulder of Abel Road where it subsequently overturned.

The passenger, Katarina Marie Bowen, 21 of Williams, was unrestrained by her seatbelt during the collision and was ejected from the vehicle.

Hernandez was also not wearing his seatbelt and extracted from the vehicle.

Both occupants received major injuries as a result of the collision and were transported to Enloe Medical Center in Chico by air ambulance.

The DUI collision is still under investigation by the Williams Area, California Highway Patrol.
