Just in time for the holidays, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and Military Warriors Support Foundation will congratulate Mohamad K. Akhtar on being awarded a home and welcome his family to Williams.

The Wells Fargo & Company in collaboration with the Military Warriors Support Foundation donated six mortgage-free homes to military veterans in six different cities the week of December 15, 2014.

Veterans received keys to their homes in Des Moines, Iowa; Fort Wayne, Indiana; Lancaster Pennsylvania; Bonne Terre, Missouri; Dallas, Oregon; and Williams, California.

“It is a great honor for Wells Fargo to serve members of the military, and we take that commitment seriously,” said Don Pearson, Great Plains Lead Regional President for Wells Fargo. “The home donation program for veterans is one of the many ways that we support the brave men and women who have given so much for our country. Moreover, what better gift during the holiday season than a mortgage-free home?”

Marine Sergeant Mohamad K. Akhtar was the recipient of a home in Williams.

Akhtar joined the Marines in 1997, where he was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and after eight years of service was honorably discharged in 2005.

He is the father of two children and a recipient of the Purple Heart.

On Thursday, December 18, 2014, Wells Fargo hosted a celebratory ceremony for Akhtar.

Wells Fargo presented Akhtar with a ‘giant key’, representing the “key turnover ceremony” where his family, friends, and neighbors watched on.

Wells Fargo and the Military Warriors Support Foundation are committed to helping veterans who are wounded while serving their country. Wells Fargo donates homes to MWSF for use in their Homs4WoundedHeroes and Homes4GoldStars programs.

This donation is one of seven that Wells Fargo and MWSF will make one week before the Christmas holiday, allowing these families to celebrate the holidays in their new homes.

In 2012, Wells Fargo committed $35 million in three years to support veterans in the areas of housing, career transition and customized financial education with $30 million of it earmarked for property donations. From Jan. 2013 – Dec. 2014, Wells Fargo has donated 199 properties, valued at more than $30 million that have been awarded to veterans.

“Becoming a homeowner is a goal for many Americans,” said Smith, Vice President, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. “Wells Fargo is proud to work with organizations like the Military Warriors Support Foundation to help homeownership become a reality for veterans.”
