Imogene Frances “Jean” Gomez (1926-2014)

70947c635aec41fdbdcdf7b6256afab8Imogene Frances “Jean” Gomez of Colusa passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Friday, January 17, 2014 just reaching the age of 88 two days earlier. Jean was born at home on January 15, 1926 in Lodoga to Arthur and Rose Mathews and had one sister named Virgina.

As children and well into our adulthood, we were told wonderful stories of her childhood up in the mountains before the family moved to Colusa where she attended Colusa High School. It wasn’t long before Jean met the love of her life, Henry Gomez, and they were married in 1940 and they enjoyed 62 years together until his passing in 2002. Together they had 7 children, Nyla, Patty, Bonnie, Roger, Richard, Debbie and Marcia.

Henry and Jean lovingly shared their home with her father Arthur after the passing of her mother. It was because of her caring and nurturing nature that our family became strong, loving and learned how to care for each other even on tough days. Jean never had a harsh or unkind word to say about anyone and had a way of giving you advice without really giving you advice. She just knew how to talk to you and let you figure out what was best for you. That loving, gentle and warm place called Mama’s will be missed for generations to come.

Jean is survived by and will be dearly missed by her children Nyla (Joe) Lucero, Patty Serrano, Roger (Laurel) Gomez, Bonnie (Daniel) Ramirez, Richard Gomez, Debra (Kirk) Laux and Marcia (Joe) Candito, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jean is also survived by her faithful companion, her dog Bailey, who followed her everywhere and slept by her feet.

Jean was preceded in death by her loving parents Arthur and Rose, husband Henry and sister Virginia.

Visitations will be held from 11:00a.m. – 1:00p.m. Thursday, January 23rd at McNary-Moore Chapel 107 5th Street Colusa. Graveside services will follow at 2:00p.m. at the Holycross Catholic Cemetery 1741 Wescott Road Colusa.
