Our adored Jim “Otis” Reading of Colusa passed away early morning on February 9, 2014.
Jim was born on April 16, 1949. A devoted man to his family, he generously dedicated much of his time to his community.
The legacy of his love for his mother Raechel Reading, his children, Toby (Kiffin) and Nick (Brooke), and grandchildren Todd, Rylee, Allie, Max and Mia will thrive throughout his family.
He generously volunteered his life to many community programs such as Sac River Rural Volunteer Fire Department, he was the annual chairman of the Colusa County Fair Parade, he was an outstanding member of the Colusa Lions Club, Colusa High 12 Club and American Legion. He was actively involved in the Colusa Little League, 4H Club, Stagehands Theater and Swim Team.
He held the Hiram Award with the Masonic Lodge, and the Golden Apple Award from Colusa Unified School District.
Jim also played Santa Claus to thousands of Burchfield students and other children in the community.
Jim has donated to just about every school and community fundraiser that was held and committed countless hours to the city’s recycling efforts. He was a respected community member, businessman, and friend to many.
Jim’s achievements were outstanding and so was his character.
There will forever be a missing piece in our hearts and lives, and a vacancy in our community.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Newell Reading and survived by his brother Dale Reading and Sister Pamela Niehues, and two nieces and a nephew. He leaves behind a long time devoted friend Colleen Franklin, her two daughters and grandson, and a host of friends.
