Juanita was born in Springfield, Missouri on December 30, 1918 to Albert and Libby Estella (Stella) Cockrum, and moved to Los Angeles, California with her family when she was about 17. A little know fact is documented through genealogical records that Juanita’s mother is a distant cousin to President Abraham Lincoln’s mother, Nancy Hanks.
Louis and Juanita wed on July 5, 1939 in Los Angeles and were married for 52 years. In 1950, Dr. George A. Schaap from Colusa , a close friend, encouraged Dr. Buonomo to move his medical practice from Glendale, California to Colusa. Dr. Buonomo passed away at the age of 83 in1993.
Juanita helped manage her husbands medical practice located on Bridge Street for many years. Juanita was a housewife, attended the Trinity United Methodist Church, known by many Colusa residents, and was loved by the community. She loved living in the wonderful little town of Colusa that she called “Home”.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents Albert and Stella Cockrum, younger brother James Cockrum (Col, retired USAF) and his wife Rosalie, and by Juanita’s husband Dr. Louis J. Buonomo.
Juanita is survived by three children, Juana Juvenal (Richard) from Penn Valley, Ca, Louis Buonomo Jr. (Karen) from Mountain View, Ca., Diana Woods – Dawson from Napa, Ca. Juanita’s grandchildren include Justin Montaneaux from Colusa, Jason Woods (Heather) from Palm Desert, Aaron Woods ( Stacy) from Colusa, Sally Pearsall ( Darren ) from Lafayette Ca, and Great Granddaughter Avery Grace Pearsall.
Services are scheduled for 11:00a.m. Thursday, April 10th at the McNary-Moore Chapel 107 5th St. Colusa, CA. Burial will follow at the Holycross Cemetery 1741 Wescott Rd. Colusa.
