Dr. Jack D. Douglas (1926-2014)

Douglas, J. MilitaryDr. Jack D. Douglas, DVM, retired Lt. Colonel, USAF, 87, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sept. 4th, 2014.

He was born on Sept 29th, 1926 to Jesse C. and Julia Douglas in Bay City, Oregon. His love of animals led him to study veterinary medicine. He joined the Air Force in 1943, and did medical research from 1945 until 1970, including AFIP, NASA and other institutions. In 1970 he entered private veterinary practice, where he treated everything from dogs and cats to snakes and lions. He was at the Vacaville Animal Care Center from 1976 until 1986.

Ever optimistic, he had a great sense of humor, and was an engaging storyteller. He was never a stranger to anyone, usually the focus of attention at any event he attended, especially when surrounded by family. His most loved role was as Santa Claus, with his long bushy beard and giving personality, he was a natural.

He was the sole survivor of 5 siblings, 3 brothers, and his beloved sister, who passed away last month. He was preceded in death by two daughters and his first wife.

He was survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Mary; Three daughters Marcy Douglas Ketcham, Connie Griffin, Jeannine Ramey; Son Kurt; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service with full military honors will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, 5810 Midway Rd., Dixon, CA, on Tuesday, Sept. 16th, at 10:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jack’s name to the American Heart Association at American Heart Association   Donation Processing Center P.O. Box 742030, Los Angeles, CA 90074-2030.
