Gerald Sartain (1941-2014)

sartain obit 001Gerald H. Sartain, beloved Brother, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grand Father, Uncle and Friend, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014.

Gerald was born on July 1, 1941 in Yreka, California to Hollis and Hazel Sartain. The family moved to Colusa when he was six. He graduated from Colusa High School and CSU-Chico. He was also a veteran serving in the Army Reserves.

Gerald married the love of his life, Violet (VI) on July 25, 1970 in a small chapel in Rough & Ready, CA. They made their home in Colusa, California for over 42 years, until her death in November 2012.

Gerald worked for Colusa County Public Works for over 30 years, retiring as an Associate Surveyor in 2003, but continuing on as a part time consultant until 2012. He was instrumental in keeping the County in compliance with the Subdivision Map Act and other local ordinances.

Gerald was a member of the Meridian United Methodist Church, Colusa Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Shriners, Colusa Cemetery District and the Colusa Golf and Country Club. He also served on many service boards and committees over the years. All held a special place in his heart along with the friends he made over the years.

Gerald is survived by his sisters Lynn Messick and Coral Hubbard; Brother Allen Sartain; Daughters Madelon Morgan (Rodney), Marianne Lane, Melinda Montgomery; Son Gordon Montgomery (Carla); Grandchildren Jackie Anderson (Eric), Marissa Wood, Gavin Wise, Jessica Johnson, Adam Johnson, Jodi Cortez (Tim), Mandy Robbins (Mike), Christopher Robbins (Amanda), Kelsey Lindquist (Derek) and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom filled his life with love and laughter.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Hollis and Hazel Sartain, his wife Violet (Vi) Sartain, daughter Michelle Montgomery and grandson Jeremy Montgomery.

A memorial service will be held on October 25, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 1121 Second Street, Meridian, CA. Burial to follow at the Colusa Cemetery.
