Born in the Arbuckle Sanitarium Hospital on June 23, 1927, Malcolm began her life on the family farm on Sycamore Slough in Colusa County.
Malcom attended Arbuckle Elementary and graduated Pierce High School as valedictorian of her class in 1945. She later studied music at UC Berkeley and graduated in 1949, and was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority.
On September 11, 1949 she married Raymond H Lauppe from Grimes. Raymond built a home for his new bride in Grimes where they started their family.
Malcolm was an outstanding member of the Grimes Community, as she volunteered with the Grimes Ladies Aid Society, and was the organist for the Grimes Community Church.
To many, Malcolm was their music teacher, where she taught band and chorus for 12 years with the Pierce Joint Unified School District. She also gave many private piano lessons at her home to scores of students for nearly 50 years.
In 1980, her husband of 31 years, passed away, and in 1986, she married Charles Malcolm.
Malcolm and her husband traveled across the United States, and throughout Canada. She also learned how to fish the Sacramento River. Charles Malcolm passed away in 2008.
Malcolm is preceded in death by her parents, Milton and Louise (Davis) Struckmeyer and her brother Bill.
Jean is survived by her sister Mary O’Neal, her sons Christopher and wife Janice; John and wife Charlette; and James and wife Terra. Jean also leaves behind eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many dear friends in Colusa County and beyond.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on November 15, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Grimes Community Church on Main Street, in Grimes.
A reception will follow, with light refreshments, across the street at the Grand Island Firehouse.
