She was born on September 7, 1924 in England, Arkansas to parents Charley W. and Eva Belle (Frederick) Stevenson.
The family moved to Grimes, California when Bonnie was a young girl.
When she was 18 she married the love of her life; James E. Bowden and the couple have made their home in Grimes for more than 70 years.
They had two daughters; Ann and Kathy but also provided food, shelter and guidance to many teenagers over the years. Bonnie’s home and her heart were always open to young people. She once said that the years when her daughters were teens and the house was always filled with their friends was a very happy time in her life.
She stood by her husband and knowing his land leveling business was seasonal she always planned ahead. She planted her first garden by tilling it herself with a shovel. She always canned all summer and stored food for winter while the summer work was plentiful.
She was a wonderful seamstress and took pride in sewing for her daughters.
She was a faithful woman; living a life as close to a “Proverbs Woman” life as possible.
Her faith was a huge part of her life and she loved to share God’s word. She especially enjoyed the many years she was a Sunday School teacher, Bible School leader and youth director at First Baptist Church in Colusa where she and her husband played a leading role in the formation of the church.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law and father-in-law John C. and Norma Bowden, nephews Tom and Tony Bowden, son-in-law David G. Craigo and brother-in-law Fenton McClough.
She is survived by her husband, daughters; Ann (Samuel) Krouse (Meridian) and Kathy Craigo (Grimes), one sister; Edna May McClough (Shelton WA) as well as grandchildren; Velvet, Val (Tara), and Tiffany (Becky) Craigo (Beach ND), Dena Macklin (Auburn), Jenica (Chuck) Garrett (Meridian) and great grandchildren; Vaughn, Kohen and Lea Craigo (Beach, ND), Mikala Kostlivy (Yuba City) , Tyler Macklin (Auburn), Kelsi Macklin (China), Sonya Shepherd (Yuba City), Dana Gonzales (Marysville), and “adopted” daughters Sue Carrion (Antelope) and Betty Shepherd (Yuba City) and Carol Hutsell (Colusa) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including Linette Craig (Colusa) who along with Carol Hutsell cared for her so lovingly.
A celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at noon on January 3, 2015 at the Grand Island Fire Station in Grimes. There will be a potluck lunch and a time to share memories with the family.
