Two Recreational Vehicles Crash in Mendocino National Forest

According the the California Highway Patrol, on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at approximately 1:10 PM, 18-year-old, Luke C. Rodden of Napa, CA, was traveling at a high rate of speed on his 2009 Yamaha YZ250 on Forest Service Road in the Mendocino National Forest, near Stonyford.

As Rodden approached a left-hand curve in the roadway, he traveled into the oncoming traffic lane.

Robert Nyhof, 57 of Ripon, CA was operating his 2014 Polaris Razor at the stated speed of 25 MPH.

With Rodden and Nyhof approaching the same curve head-on, Nyhof reacted by turning his motorcycle to the right and applying his breaks to avoid a collision.

Subsequently, Rodden was unsuccessful, and his left side foot peg struck the left front tire of Mr. Nyhof’s vehicle.

As a result, Rodden was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained major injuries and was transported to Enloe Medical Center for his injuries. Nyhof was uninjured.

Both Rodden and Nyhof were wearing the appropriate off-highway safety equipment.
