“It took five years for us to get to this point,” said Garden Club member Cynthia White, “we had to go through many state and local agencies to receive the permits needed.”
The Colusa River Park Gateway project started about four years with the Colusa Rotary Club, who funded the new stairway structure along the Sacramento River Levee at 5th Street.
The Garden Club of Colusa County recently took on the project to landscape the entrance with native, drought tolerant plants.
“Everything that we’ve planted is native or will do very well with low water and the extreme temperatures,” said White.
The project time was volunteered by the members of the Garden Club of Colusa County, and materials were donated by Ed Hulbert, Jerry Shadinger. Additionally, Supervisor Denise Carter was able to assist the group by using surplus Prop 40 bond funds for the landscape irrigation.
