Semi rear ends Caltrans Vehicle

A Caltrans worker suffered major injuries after being rear-ended by a semi-truck along Interstate 5, just north of Williams.

According to the California Highway Patrol, on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at about 10:10 AM, Victor Haritonov was driving 2013 Volvo Semi-truck, southbound on Interstate 5, just north of the Freshwater Road over-crossing in Williams at approximately 60 MPH.

Meanwhile, Christopher Meredith, 51, of Yuba City, was driving a fully marked Caltrans garbage truck, on the southbound shoulder of Interstate 5, at a slow speed.

For unknown reasons, Haritonov allowed his big rig to drift to the right shoulder and subsequently collided with the rear of the Caltrans vehicle.

Due to the collision impact, both vehicles traveled through a wire fence and came to rest in a rice field just west of Interstate 5.

Haritonov was transported to Colusa Regional Medical Center for moderate injuries. Meredith was transported by air ambulance to Enloe Medical Center for major injuries.

The incident is currently under investigation with the Williams Area, California Highway Patrol.
