Hernandez Represents Colusa County in State Elementary Spelling Bee

Over 300 people gathered for the California State Elementary Spelling Bee hosted by San Joaquin County Office of Education for the fifth consecutive year on April 18, 2015.

54 fourth through sixth grade students from 28 counties in California who have been certified as county champions by their County Superintendents of Schools competed for the championship.

Johnson Junior High Sixth grade student, Eduardo Hernandez represented Colusa County at the competition.

Although Hernandez was eliminated in the 6th round, he retains the local spelling champion title.

“What a terrific accomplishment by Eduardo and all of the contestants who attended,” said Colusa County Superintendent of Schools, Mike West, “ “Congratulations to Eduardo as he represented Colusa County Well.”

After 18 rounds, Ananya Vinay, a fourth-grader from Fresno County was named the 2015 California State Spelling Champion after correctly spelling “Stroganoff”.
