Colusa Community Stage with cooking demonstrations is coming back to the Colusa County Fair this year with a few changes and additions. The biggest change is that it is moving locations on the Fairgrounds.
While in previous years the popular attraction has been in Festival Hall it will now be located in the new Community Building just behind Main Exhibit Building.
The popular demonstration stage was added to the Fair in 2012 when it was initially the Premier Mushroom Demonstration Stage, named for its then sole sponsor. In the years that followed it became a community stage with several additional sponsors.
Demonstrations will be every 1 ½ hours on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 1 pm daily.
Sponsors for this year’s stage include Premier Mushrooms, Inc., Colusa Casino Resort, Central Valley Gas Storage, and Jeffreys Ranch Pecans.
The cooks may prepare dishes using anything grown or produced in Colusa County. Cooks preparing dishes requiring mushrooms will be provided locally grown Premier Mushrooms by the mushroom growers.
“We are happy to bring this event back to the 76th annual Colusa County Fair June 4-7,” said Fair CEO Jonathan Howard. “It has been well received in the past, and we are anticipating its continued success,” he said.
An electric range and oven and a microwave oven, as well as a preparation table with an overhead mirror, will be provided for the cooks. Each cook will prepare his or her dish while providing cooking instructions.
There are many returning cooks on stage this year. “Dishes we have so far are warm spinach salad, wild turkey pasta, chicken and onions with mushrooms and pecan turtles with microwave caramel, said stage organizer Kathy Craigo. Some of our cooks are still deciding what they will prepare,” she added.
There are demonstration times available for eight presentations. A few times are still available and may be reserved on a first-call basis by calling Kathy Craigo Media Consulting at (530) 458-3704.
