Ceramics & Bear Studio Opens in Downtown Colusa

081115 - BFF Ceramics and Bears

“It’s a great place for people to come and make a unique gift that will be treasured for a lifetime,” said new Colusa business owner, Ruby Hodges who open a paint-your-own-pottery- and build-your-own-bear studio in June.

Hodges, with her business partner Annette Oswald, own BFF Ceramics and Bears located at 147 5th Street in Colusa.

The Duo hopes the shop will provide the community with a great opportunity to create unique gifts, and a have a relaxing, creative outlet.

“I want this to be a place where you can paint and fire your coffee cup and then come back to relax, create and paint with your friends and neighbors,” said Hodges.

Born and raised in the Yuba City Area, Hodges commented that owning a ceramics store was a little “out of the box” for her as she worked many years in the construction industry.

“I was a secretary for a construction firm for many years, and I recently retired,” said Hodges.

However, bored with retirement, she began looking for something to fill her time and spark her creativity. Hodges fell into a beloved hobby and turned it into a business.

“I have always loved ceramics,” said Hodges, “When the opportunity presented itself, I had to take the opportunity and purchase the business.”

With dozens of design to choose from, BFF Ceramics and Bears has something for everyone.

“We have piggy banks, to plates, bowls, cups, lady bugs, unicorns, mermaids, and other unique gift items,” said Hodges, “you can let your imagination just go wild in here.”

Hodges also commented that if you are looking for something specific, she can locate it and have it ready for you to paint.

“Many people are afraid to paint ceramics because they feel like they need to know how to do it or that they will mess up,” said Hodges, “I can help them out and provide instruction and my goal is to allow each person’s individual creativity shine.”

Hodges also mentioned that groups can host ceramic painting parties.

“We have a great variety of projects that would be great for Girl Scout or Boy Scout craft projects,” said Hodges, “I would also like to offer a provide opportunities for area schools.”

BFF Ceramics and Bears is unlike any other ceramics store, as Hodges commented that there are no hidden fees.

“We don’t charge for firings or painting of your items,” said Hodges.

Oh, we must not forget the Bears!

“They are soft, cuddly, and are build-your-own,” said Hodges, “Stuff them as full as you would like and then select an outfit to dress them just right.”

BFF Ceramics and Bears is located at 147 5th Street in Downtown Colusa and is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Fridays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
