Colusa County Arts Council Hosts August Artist Reception

colusa3On Thursday, August 13, 2015, the Colusa County Arts Council will host an artist reception for its youth artists who participated in this year’s summer art camp.

Over the summer, a three-day art camp was held in the communities of Arbuckle, Colusa Grimes, Maxwell and Williams. Students learned the seven elements of visual arts and learned the painting styles of Chagall and Picasso.

“It was a great turnout for our first summer art camp,” said Arts Council Member and Instructor, Trish Gustafson-Ayala, “our top daily participant count were: Colusa 32, Williams 43, Arbuckle 24, Grimes 10, and Maxwell 21.”

The Free Summer Youth Art Camp was made possible through a collaboration with the Colusa County Arts Council and donations made by Colusa Industrial Properties, City of Williams, Arbuckle Parks & Recreation, Pearson Realty, Rocco’s Bar and Grill, Fouch & Son Pharmacy, Roger Moore, Roseanne Ellis, Sankey Auto, Alsco-Geyer, Gary Teragawa, L.C. Dennis, Sheryl Goodman and Trish Ayala.

Ayala hopes to continue the art program and is seeking future contributions and funding for a countywide Art History and Instruction program.

“The overall goal is to afford children from the ages of 5-17 the opportunities to engage in the arts, so that they can develop creative problem solving skills, positive forms of personal expression, and become more engaged in their communities through the arts as well as an opportunity to attend art classes that there family and school may not be able to afford,” said Ayala.

Anyone wishing to donate to keep the Arts Alive for Our Youth can visit the GoGetFunding page at http://gogetfunding.com/keeping-the-arts-alive-for-our-youth/ or donations can be made during the artist reception.

All of the artwork completed by the students who participated in the Youth Art Camp will be on display at the Colusa County Arts Council Art Gallery through the month of August.

The Artist Reception will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2015, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Colusa County Arts Council Art Gallery, 430 Market Street in Downtown Colusa.
For more information about the Youth Art Camp or to make a donation, call the Colusa County Arts Council at (530) 458-2222.
