On October 5th-7th, 2015 a group of Danish gymnasts will be performing for the Colusa & Arbuckle Schools as well as an evening performance for the public.

This is the group’s fifth visit to Colusa County. In 1997, Tom Christofferson, the tour coordinator, was introduced to David & Teresa Holeman of Colusa by their daughter, Valerie Holeman, a Colusa High School graduate, who lives in Denmark. With the help of the Holeman’s, area schools, and numerous host families, the group have performed for Colusa County in 1997, 2004, 2007, 2012 and now 2015.

On Monday, October 5, the Danish Gymnastics Group will perform at Colusa High School for the Egling Middle School 4th-6th graders starting at 8:45 AM. A workshop with the fifth-graders will be held at 10:00 AM. A performance for Burchfield Primary School Kindergarten through third-grade class, and the Egling Middle School seventh and eighth-grade students will begin at 12:30 PM. A meet the students activity will begin at 1:30 pm.

On Tuesday, October 6, the Danish Gymnastics Group will perform at the Arbuckle Elementary School starting at 9:00 AM. A workshop with the fifth-graders will begin at 10:30 AM. During the afternoon, the Gymnastics Group will visit Doherty Farms for a tour, and will host a community performance at Colusa High School starting at 7: 00 PM
On Wednesday, October 7, the Danish Gymnastics Group will make its final performance at Colusa High School for the High School Students starting at 8:30 AM followed by a meet the students activity.

The Gymnastic Team performance lasts approx 45-50 minutes, and it includes jumps on the floor and jumps in the mini-trampoline. The boys and girls will do some rhythmic routines to music and in between there will be some fun acts.

“We know from experience that kids of all ages like it,” said Tom Christoffersen, Tour Coordinator, “The workshops that we do will last an hour. We are aiming at five graders since they seem to be a good crowd – not too shy and not afraid to sweat a bit. They will try some of the things we do and get to work with the gymnasts. This is something that is always fun for the gymnasts and the students.”

Christoffersen added that the gymnasts are all former students from a school named Aagaard Efterskole where one of the things that are in focus besides the regular classes for high school is gymnastics (the Danish way).

The students have to spend 1 or 2 years at the school (the last two years of high school) and are now age 17-25. They have all had to try-out to get on this team. The team is consists of 38 gymnasts. ■
