On Wednesday, November 18, 2015, the Williams Community Center dedicated and unveiled a special glass display and plaque in honor of the Williams VFW Post 4310.

Community members, veterans, and local officials attended the dedication ceremony.

“When we brought the idea to the VFW Post 4310 to use their facility as a community center, they were ecstatic,” said Williams Community Center Board Member, Ron Simmons.

The then 60-year-old building was in rough shape and was in the need of great repair.

“We were awarded monies from Supervisor Mark Marshall, and we were able to begin reconstruction,” said Simmons.

Just a few long months later, the building was completed and in 2013 the community center opened its doors.

“The VFW Post 4310 members unanimously agreed to allow us to use the building as a community center,” said Simmons, “there was only one condition, that once completed the VFW would be offered a glass case for memorabilia and a plaque erected on the building.”

“Today we are honoring those members of VFW Post 4310,” said Simmons.

Williams Community Member, Fay Turner spoke on behalf of the history of the building.

“A lot went on in this hall during its day,” said Turner, “I cannot count the number of parties, crab feeds, weddings, and memorials were held in the hall.”

Turner estimated that the hall was completed sometime during the 1940s, remodeled from an old school house.

Two members of the former Williams VFW Post 4310 were present during the Ceremony, Wayne Hampshire, and Robert Dutil.

Ken Edwards gave the invocation.

“I am honored to be here and to honor those that have served our country,” said Edwards.

Following Edwards’ speech, Williams Community Center Board Members, Barbara Freeman, and Ron Simmons unveiled the Williams VFW Post 2441 Display Case.

In closing, Williams Community Center Board Member and Volunteer sang “Proud to be an American” with a standing ovation.

The Williams Community Center hosts weekly bingo and karaoke nights along with other community and family oriented activities. Additionally, the Community Center is available for rent for special occasions.
