After earning their spot in the Jamz Youth Nationals during the Capital City Championships in Sacramento, the Arbuckle Youth Football Cheer Squad, Mighty Mites, will travel to the Orleans Hotel & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 22, 2016.

“I am excited to go to Vegas,” said seven-year-old Mighty Mite team member, Buck McPeek.

The 11 member Mighty Mites Cheer Squad have been working hard since August to prepare for the competition, practicing to learn, perfect, and perform the routines; jumps and stunts won them bids to compete in Nationals.

Their routine will consist of dance and cheer to a mix of music choreographed by Coach, Jessica Karlonas and Junior Coach, Erin White.

“It is rewarding to be the Junior Coach and to see my little sister Jordin grow as a cheerleader and make new friends,” said Mighty Mite Cheer Coach, Erin Wite, “I had a lot of fun coaching and plan on doing it again next season.”

Since learning of their achievement, the coaches, team members, and their parents have been working to help raise the necessary funds to send the Mighty Mites Cheer Squad to Nationals.

Most recently, the group held a tamale sale where they sold over 235 dozen tamales. The group has also begun a See’s Candy fundraiser and set up a gofundme.com page.

“We are so proud of these kids. It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where they are,” said Cheer Mom, Melissia Dowden, “As a mom, I get to watch both my daughter’s having fun and making memories – it is worth the time every week.”

Dowden also commented that she was not only proud of the kids, but the coaches as well.

“Jessica has done some amazing things with this group. Watching the progression from the first practice to the level they are at today is worth the time we have put into the program,” said Dowden.

Anyone who would like to contribute to the Mighty Mites Cheer Squad, Nationals Fund – Donations can be made via their GoFundMe Page (www.gofundme.com/3492NV6S). You can also stop by their booth during the Festival of Lights on December 12, 2015, in Downtown Williams. The team will also be caroling in the communities of Arbuckle, Williams, and Maxwell and will be taking donations through the month of December.
