Man Arrested after Brandishing Firearm and DUI Collision

The California Highway Patrol attempted a “high-risk” traffic stop to detain a motorist who allegedly brandished a gun at another driver – the pursuit ended with a traffic collision.

The incident began about 2:13 PM on Interstate 5 in Arbuckle when the CHP Chico Dispatch Center received a call of a subject in a lifted black Dodge pick-up with a camper shell brandishing a handgun at passing motorists.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the vehicle traveling northbound and was located by officers who attempted to conduct an enforcement stop; however, the driver failed to yield to officers.

The driver, later identified as 29-year-old, Darnell Jonathan Cail Banks of Santa Clara, California, continued to flee from officers and exited the freeway onto Highway 20.

Subsequently, banks failed to stop at the posted stop sign that controls the intersection and collided with a 2013 Honda.

The Honda was driven by 61-year-old Michael Moore of Kelseyville, CA.

The two passengers of the Honda, 63-year-old, Sydney Moore of Kelseyville, CA, and 88-year-old, Colleen Morrell of Colusa, CA were transported to Colusa Regional Medical Center for Minor Injuries.

Banks was taken into custody without further incident and was transported to Colusa Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

The CHP reported that during the search of Banks’ vehicle, a handgun was recovered, and he was later identified by the initial victim who reported the brandishing incident.

Banks was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury, evading an officer against traffic, driving while license is suspended for a DUI, exhibiting a firearm, a person was convicted of a felony in the possession of a firearm, and for the possession of a large capacity magazine, carrying a concealed weapon on his person or in a vehicle, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, and for being a person convicted of a felony in the possession of ammunition. He is booked into the Colusa County Jail with bail set at $250,000.
