Joyce Marlene Martell (1937-2015)

OBIT - Joyce MartellJoyce Marlene Martell, formerly McCullough, passed away on Jan. 31, 2015 at Valley West Care Center in Williams, CA.

Born July 29, 1937 to Ezma “Pat” Schafer in Yuba City, California.

Joyce attended school in Colusa and Graduated from Colusa High School in 1955.

Joyce worked for Davison Drug during High School, Western Auto, Pirelli Cable before becoming the Appointed City Clerk/Finance Director for the City of Colusa in 1973 where she remained to 1989 upon Retirement.

Joyce married Kermit L. McCullough in 1955 where they raised three daughters Linda Kay Zepeda (Angelo) of Colusa, Ann Potts (William) of Orcas Island, WA. Della Jane McCullough (Chad) Lopez Island, WA.

Upon Retirement, Joyce spent the next ten years traveling to multiple states visiting friends and family.

During High School, Joyce participated in many activities; her favorites were chorus and drum majorette.

Joyce was an avid volunteer and belonged to many clubs and organizations. She was the President and Founding Member of Colusa Soroptimist Club; President of California City Clerk’s Assoc.; and a board member of the California State Business Women’s Association.

She was also a participant of the Colusa Stagehands theater and a member of the Presbyterian Church and chorus.

Joyce was an avid bowler and enjoyed participating in many recreational sports including golf, softball, and skiing.

During her last 13 years of Life, Joyce was the love of Phil’s life. They shared and made many happy memories together traveling all over the world, taking many cruises to Alaska, Mexico, The Caribean, Hawaii, The Baltics and Mediterranean Sea and Europe. They enjoyed many Road trips all over the United States and spending time with each other’s grandchildren. Phil was there to share in Joyce’s last moments of her life, and she will forever be in his heart.

Joyce is survived by her husband Survived by Husband Phil Martell of Colusa and his

Daughter Triphena Martell of Williams. She is also survived by her Mother Ezma “Pat” Schafer; brother Jerry Randolph (Linda), and sister-in-law Laura Moles; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and her longtime best friend, Evalena Cox-Hise

She is preceded in Death by Husband Kermit L. McCullough and her sister Bobbie Birge.

Joyce is the grandmother to Angel Shatell Potts of Rio Rancho, NM; Charles Zepeda of San Diego, CA.; Sgt. Thomas Zepeda, of Camp LeJeune, NC; Samantha Frith, of Auburn, WA; Kimberly Zepeda of Sacramento, Ca.; Teddy M. McCullough of Washington, DC; and the grandmother to three adopted grandchildren Dustin Potts, Asa Potts and Kaycee Kanipe. Joyce is also the great-grandmother to Xavier and Danica Perez, and Cassia and Rutledge Frith.

Visitation services will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at McNary-Moore Chapel, 107 5th Street, Colusa. Funeral services are scheduled at 11:00 AM on Saturday February 7, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, 4th and Jay Streets, Colusa.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joyce’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
