Nancy Ruth Bertram (1922-2015)

OBIT - Nancy BertramNancy Ruth Bertram went home to be with her Savior on February 9, 2015.

Nancy is survived by her daughter-in-law, Vera Bertram, grandchildren Connie Driffill (husband David), Terri Swiggum, Barry Bertram, Gerald Bertram (wife Wendy). She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren and great-great children.

Nancy was born to Walter Eugene and Helen Judson Ruth in Toledo, Ohio on October 11, 1922. After graduating with her Bachelor of Science from the College of Wooster and a nursing credential from Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Nancy traveled from Ohio to Colusa in 1950. She applied for a job opening at the Colusa Health Department. Nancy was employed as the County Health Department Nursing Director from 1951 ‚Äď 1977.

Nancy was a woman of faith. She started attending the Colusa Presbyterian Church shortly after moving to Colusa. It was there that she met Fred Bertram, and told her grand-daughter, Connie, in later years that ‚Äúit was love at first sight.‚ÄĚ They were married June 20, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church. Their 43 years of marriage included a mutual appreciation of gardening, camping, entertaining friends, and making certain that family came first.

Nancy’s pursuits of sewing, crocheting, puzzles, and, most of all, reading were a big part of her life, and also contributed greatly to her nimbleness of mind.

Nancy was a quietly kind and generous person. Behind-the-scenes acts of giving were her specialty, and this did not go unnoticed by the people and pets that cared about her the most, and for whom she was an important person who will be missed in this world, even as she journeys on to the next.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Martin Ruth, her husband Fred Bertram, step-daughters Dollie Cribari and Ida Lou Scarr, and step-son James Bertram.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 15th from 5-8pm at McNary-Moore Chapel.
Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Colusa on Monday, February 16th 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Nancy has requested donations be made in her honor to First Presbyterian Church of Colusa.

Arrangements are under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service FD-410
