Joann May Gryder (1931-2015)

OBIT - Joann May GryderJoann May Gryder, a devoted wife and loving mother was called to join our heavenly father on April 2, 2015 at the Marysville Care and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 83. She was born on July 23, 1931 in Salem, Oregon to her parents John W. Burgess and Brueatta Burgess Lehmkuhl. Along with her family, she relocated to the small town of Princeton, CA. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1950. After graduating from high school, she enlisted in the United States Army, where she met her husband of 63 years. After getting married in 1951, Omar and Joann moved to Colusa, CA where they resided for 62 years.

Joann loved being a homemaker, raising her three children, cooking, sewing, and planting flowers in her backyard.

She was involved with numerous organizations through out the years, some of which were the United Methodist Women, VFW Auxiliary, California Women’s Bowling Association, and the Boy and Girl Scouts of America organizations through her children. Joann was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Colusa, CA.

Because she loved bingo with a passion, she donated her time helping out at the VFW Bingo hall, where she sold packets for bingo players. Upon closure of the VFW Bingo hall, she then became a weekly bingo player herself at the Williams Community Center in Williams, CA.

Joann is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Omar Gryder of Colusa, CA. Son; Bruce Gryder (Marge Stafford) of Arbuckle, CA. Daughter; Janet Snyder of Colusa, CA. Granddaughters; Rebecca Gryder of Arbuckle, CA and Callie Snyder of Colusa, CA and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Gryder on December 18, 2013; brother, Jack Burgess; and sister Patricia Reusser.

Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 10am at Trinity United Methodist Church, located at 511 Oak Street, Colusa, CA. Following Memorial Service will be Interment at Colusa Cemetery located at 1974 Wilson Ave, Colusa, CA 95932. We will be gathering at the Friendship Hall located back at the church following services. Light refreshments will be provided.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joann’s name to Trinity United Methodist Church in Colusa or to the American Diabetes Association.
