Born in Woodland, CA, on May 22, 1930, to the Victor and Helen Mitchell McCullough, Shorty grew up in Arbuckle, CA and graduated from Pierce High School, in 1948. Soon after graduation, Shorty joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
After his tour of duty, and serving during the Korean War, Shorty returned home and joined his father working in the family farming operation.
In 1971, Shorty married Nancy Hatcher Goodman and resided in Dunnigan, CA. In 1998, he and his wife relocated to Mineral, CA. Shorty enjoyed fishing, hunting and all outdoors activities.
Shorty was a member of the Dunnigan Volunteer Fire Protection District for 43 years and served as Fire Chief for 14 years. He was also a Life Sponsor of Ducks Unlimited Inc., where served as D.U. Chapter and district chairman, California State Zone Chairman and became a member of the California State Ducks Unlimited Committee; and was a proud Life Member of the National Rifle Association.
A man devoted to the agriculture lifestyle, Shorty was a longtime member of the California Farm Bureau and served as the Board President for the Mineral County Water District for many years.
Shorty is survived by his children Steve McCullough (Susie) and Linda Aulgur (Frank) of Arbuckle, and step-children, Doug Goodman (Michele) of Esparto, and Todd Goodman of Red Bluff. He is also survived by five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and his sister, Mary Aulman of Woodland.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a grandson.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 26, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., at Mary’s Cemetery, located at the intersection of County Roads #98 and #15, just North of the community of Yolo.
