Ruth attended Colusa High School and Yuba College before moving to Sacramento in 1952. Her father, Bob was the custodian at Colusa High School.
Ruth worked at the California State Capitol as a secretary to the Governor for ten years. She served under Governor Earl Warren, Goodwin Knight, and Edmund Brown Sr.
Ruth was also a merchandiser for MJB Coffee and A.H. Robbins.
In 1954, Ruth married Clarence “Bud” Johnson, and they had a son, Steve.
Ruth became a stay-at-home parent and became instrumental in her community. She volunteered at all the schools her son attended and even volunteered with the local little league.
When not volunteering, she always could be found playing bridge with her friends.
Every other summer, Ruth and her family would travel to Minnesota and Wisconsin to visit family. She loved playing slots at all the casinos.
Ruth is Preceded in death by her father, Bob Martere. She is survived by her mother, Mary; husband Bud; Sister Angie (Devin) Donohue; her son Steve Johnson; and grandchildren, Stephanie and Andrew Johnson.
There is a book called “Grandma’s Best” and Ruth was one. She will be missed by all who loved her.
A funeral mass was held at St. Anthony Parish on March 19, 2015 in Sacramento, CA.
