Tom Hamilton (1932-2015)

OBIT---Tom-HamiltonTom Hamilton, 83, of Arbuckle passed away on 10/1/2015 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marie Dovell Hamilton and three children Lorraine Maples, Cheryll Dennis and David Hamilton. Also surviving Tom are 6 grandchildren Arwen Lottman, Leanne O’Connor, Kellie O’Connor, Kayla Zilch, Shelly Connally, Curtis Hamilton and six great grandchildren Leta Lentz, Thomas Lottman, Sylar Connally, Jayden Connally, Paris Connally, Scarlett Hamilton. Tom loved his wife and family and always had time for them first.

Tom received a medal for his service in the Korean War and a United Nations medal and a National Defense Medal from 1951-1954. He graduated from Yuba College in 1956, Chico State in 1962 and received a master’s degree from Chico State.

Tom was a true artist with his pottery work. He received a best in show award in arts division for his hand thrown bowl at the Booneville Fair and Apple Show in 2006. He taught ceramics/pottery at Yuba College in 1969.

Tom was a builder and pilot of model airplanes throughout his life.

His planes were a work of art that would make other model enthusiasts wish for his talents.

Tom loved his greyhound dogs. He and his wife Marie are currently ranked 5th in the United States in the owner handler class for greyhounds. Their dog, Gunner, was number one male in 2002 for greyhounds for owner handlers in the US and was shown by their granddaughter Shelly Connally after being invited to the Westminster Kennel Club in Madison Square Gardens.

Tom started teaching in 1956 in Linda. Then he taught in Grimes in 1957 and later became principal. Then he was principal in Arbuckle and later retired as Superintendent in the Pierce Joint Unified School District in 1993. From 1962-1969 he taught art and shop at Fouts Springs Boys Ranch for delinquent boys. Tom coached the marble club in 1956. He taught roller skating in Marysville from 1953-1957.

Tom coached the winning Women’s United States Volleyball Assoc. team from 1965-1970.

Many of us were lucky enough to have Tommy in our lives as family, friends or students. Whether he taught you how to shake hands like a man or to count to 10 or to work to accomplish your goals, Tommy has helped us all and we will miss him dearly.
