Arts Council Features Wildlife Art

The Colusa County Arts Council hosted a very successful Artist Reception Thursday, said Council-member Patti Tauscher.

Celebrating the Valley’s Waterfowl, the Colusa County Arts Council hosted an artist reception featuring the works of Lynda Goff, Karen Mason and Gene McKinnon.

The exhibit is on display through February 27, 2016.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM and on Saturday from 11 AM to 3 PM.

Photographer Lynda Goff of Davis, California, is an award-winning nature photographer and bird carver as well as a professor Emerita of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has spent a lifetime photographing cells, molecules, plants, birds and other wildlife on all seven contents including eight expeditions to the Antarctic and more than 20 to the Arctic. Through her bird photography Lynda attempts to capture the quintessential nature of the species. Each photo provides a teaching moment to help others appreciate the shear beauty and complexity of the species depicted and the environment in which they live. Painter and Artist Karen Mason of Berkeley, California, expresses a unique contemporary flair in her bird paintings through the combination of bold lines and vibrant colors. The influence of heritage and cultural design became evident in her paintings. Karen focuses on the pure character and beckoning eyes of the curious yet confident birds. Her paintings can be found in private and corporate collections in the United States, Australia, United Kingdom, Italy, and France. Karen’s work can be viewed www.karenmason-artist.com

Artist Gene McKinnon set out to produce work that was inspiring. Having completed an considerable amount of wildlife photography, McKinnon takes the photographs and creates carvings in wood. McKinnon carves and scales figures to achieve a three dimensional look. Along with wiidlife, McKinnon’s work consists of acrylic paint, oil paint, colored pencil, rocks, and natural vegetation.
