Following the Community Coffee Event on February 19, 2016, California Assemblymember James Gallagher recognized the Colusa County Veterans Service Officers relative to the California Association of Veteran Service Officers  Service Officers for helping veterans secure their federal and state benefits over the past 70 years.

Colusa County Service Officers, Don Parsons and Colusa County Department of Health and Human Services Director, Elizabeth Kelly accepted the Assembly resolution from Assemblymember Gallagher.

“Our county veterans officers are committed to serving our veterans and their families who have given so much to their country,” said Assemblymember Gallagher, “While we can’t thank them enough for their sacrifice, we continue to honor their service by helping them access the resources they deserve.”

The County Veterans Service Officers are trained and experienced individuals who work one-on-one with veterans to assist them in navigating and negotiating the benefits and services they have earned through their service. Benefits and services available to veterans include disability claims, VA health care enrollment, education benefits, death and burial benefits, and much more.

“So many veterans are proud individuals that they feel like these benefits are handouts; but they are not. These are benefits that they have earned and need to take advantage of the programs available to them,” said Colusa County VFW Post 2441 Commander, Bill Tanner during the recognition.

Colusa County Supervisor, Mark Marshall gave his appreciation to County Veterans Service Officer Don Parsons for all his hard work.
