Submitted by: Paul Santinelli

Colusa County Rugby Football Club (CCRFC) defeated the Modesto Harlots by a score of 60-24 in front of a hometown crowd in Colusa on Saturday, February 13, 2016.  CCRFC continued defending their championship season, improving to 6-0 in the Northern California Rugby Football Union Division III.  CCRFC has outscored its first four opponents by a score of 376-57 this season.

CCRFC starting side netted 41 unanswered points before Modesto scored a try with time running out in the first half.  Modesto entered the second half with a renewed energy and gave CCRFC a competitive run, scoring twoce to close the gap 41-19.  Cody Beckley scored off of a 5 meter scrum at the 65th minute mark, followed by a try by Juan Loza, which put the match at 53.19.   Mitch Barsotti netted the last Colusa try at the 72nd minute and Beckley converted to make the score 60-19.   Modesto fought back to score minutes later with time running out for a final score of 60-24.

“Modesto gave us a great test and fought hard for 80 minutes of rugby,” said Cody Beckley, captain of CCRFC.  “We knew that the match would be competitive and we are preparing for the final four matches of the season, which will be tough tests for our club.”

CCRFC has posted 6 consecutive wins in the Northern California Rugby Football Union Division III.  The club will travel to play the Marin Reds (3/12), Silicon Valley in Ukiah (3/19) and the Napa Wine Thieves (3.26) before returning home on April 9, 2016 to face Mendocino.

“Our fans have been with us through thick and thin and we can’t thank them enough,” said coach Christian Cowsert.  “With our next three matches on the road, we hope they travel strong and bleed green!”

CCRFC is away in Marin, CA this Saturday, March 12th, to face the Marin Reds.
