Pierce Honors Distinguished Dozen

2016 PHS Distinguished Dozen Group

The top six junior and top six seniors of the Pierce Joint Unified School District received recognition in front of friends and family, on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Arbuckle Golf Club during its annual ‘Distinguished Dozen’ dinner.

The top six seniors recognized a guest of honor that made an impact in his or her life.

Congratulations to the following students who were recognized as being the top six seniors and juniors.

Seniors

Carissa Cabral, is the daughter of Karen and Allen Cabral. Her guest of honor was Angela Andes.

“Mrs. Andes has been more than a teacher to me. She has supported me since the second grade,” said Cabral.

Cabral plans to attend San Diego State and Major in Business.

Gustavo Chavez, is the son of Lori Chavez. His guest of honor was Patty Gonzalez.

“Patty has gone out her way many times to help and guide me through this sometimes confusing senior year. She has taught me the value of hard work and dedication and has proven to me that these traits truly pay off. I know that with her I have made a lifelong friend,” said Chavez.

Chavez plans to attend the University of California, Davis in the fall and study Electrical or chemical engineering.

Briana Colsa, is the daughter of Aletse Garcia. Her guest of honor was Chaz Franklin.

“Mr. Franklin has inspired and encouraged me to pursue my studies in biological sciences,” said Colsa.

Colsa plans to attend a 4-year university to study biological sciences in order to pursue a career in the medical field.

Daniel Iniguez is the son of Maria L. Paniagua and Rafael Iniguez. His guest was Lauren Miller.

“Ms. Miller has taught me very valuable writing skills that have prepared me for college level courses. She is adorable, has a great personality, and is overall just a great person. Her teaching style and persona qualifies her as an idol figure in my book,” said Iniguez.

Iniquez plans to attend the University of California, San Diego and major in computer engineering. He hopes to work for the biggest tech companies like Apple, Microsoft, and Google.

Yasmin Velazquez is the daughter of Araceli and Juan Velazquez. Her guest of honor is Perla Duarte.

“Perla has been able to witness my growth, was there every moment I needed her. Never, I mean never, doubted me and believed I could achieve anything. Also, she was the best “neighbor” of my childhood,” said Velazquez.

Velazquez plans to attend Sacrament State then transfer to San Diego and major in Kinesiology. She hopes to open a physical therapy business for low income families.

Sarah Marsh is the daughter of Lorraine and Charles Marsh. Her guest of honor was George Green.

“Mr. Green has encouraged me in my speaking and FFA experiences. He has devoted himself to his students,” said Marsh.

Marsh plans to attend Texas A&M and Major in Genetics.

Juniors

Bryce Alonso, Cora Cherry, Ellian Geyer, Kiel Grisham, Thalia Martinez, and Diego Vazquez.
