Chef’s Challenge Returns to the Colusa County Fair

2015 Chef Challenge at FairThree new competitors will duel cooking skills at the 2nd annual Chef’s Challenge, returning to the Colusa County Fair, Friday, June 10, 2016.

The Challenge, in the similar style of the television series “Chopped”, brings area restaurant chefs to a stiff competition. The $500 cash award offered by Colusa Casino Resort.

Three chef’s and their assistant will meet the challenge of preparing dishes from items provided by Colusa Casino Resort Executive Chef Keith Erickson. Erickson is the coordinator of the event which is sponsored by Colusa Casino Resort.

The challenge, which was a standing-room-only event last year will be held at 7 pm on Friday, June 10 in the Community Building.

Judges for the challenge will be invited dignitaries and also the reigning Chef’s Challenge winner; Don Litchfield, owner/chef at Rocco’s Bar & Grill in Colusa.

Litchfield said it was a great event last year, and that he is excited to return this year as a judge. “We see some great food at this challenge,” he said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of it again,” he added.

This is a one-night-only event for the Fair and there are only 3 entry spots available. To date competitors are Market Street Grill and The Refuge. There is only one space left. It will be filled on a first come-first serve basis.

The Challenge is being sponsored by Colusa Casino Resort and the Colusa County Fair.

Erickson will facilitate the challenge. He explained that just as in the television program, the competing chefs will be provided with a “mystery” basket containing ingredients that must be used in one or more of their dishes. Chefs will prepare a two-course meal.
