Friends of the Shelter to Host Santa;  June 5

Santa Paws PhotoSanta is coming to Colusa! On Sunday, June 5, Santa will be in town to take photos with pets and their families. The event is a fundraiser for the Friends of Colusa County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS). All monies collected will benefit Colusa’s shelter animals.

Colusa photographer Elvira Gutierrez will shoot portraits of Santa with pets and/or their families in the park around the Colusa Scout Cabin. Donors may choose one, two, or three poses for $20, $30, and $40, respectively.

To maintain a safe environment for people and animals, dogs must arrive on leash or in a crate. Cats must arrive in a carrier.

Williams resident Dave Bishop, who maintains he IS Santa, is helping FOCCAS because “I love the animals and I love helping people and animals. It’s a win-win.”

After the event, photos will be edited and then saved to a flash drive. Donors can pick up their flash drives from the animal shelter or have them mailed for an additional amount.

Everyone involved is donating his/her time so that all donations go directly to the  shelter animals. FOCCAS President Christina Jacobs of Maxwell says that without this support, “shelter animals are denied quality of life, and often life itself.”

Sheriff’s Office Chief Animal Control Officer Courtney Elliott says, “FOCCAS’ efforts have made our shelter safer, healthier, and more pleasant for the animals. FOCCAS has saved countless lives by paying for much needed vaccines and medical care.”

FOCCAS currently provides all vaccines, heartworm and leukemia tests, worm treatment, and flea prevention to the shelter. It purchases kennels and carriers, collars, and harnesses. It buys puppy and kitten formula. Its volunteers transport animals for medical care and to rescue partners, as well as provide foster care.
