Colusa County Fair Manager, Jonathan Howard hosted the 32nd annual Fair Managers Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, June 25 at the Main Exhibit Hall at the Fair Grounds.

In keeping with the tradition of past Fair managers, Howard hosted the event for individual groups who contribute, time, money and services to the fair.

The Colusa Lions Club prepared a pulled pork dinner for guests and the evening’s entertainment included a slide show depicting the varied activities that took place at the Colusa County Fairgrounds in 2016 and 2015. Events hosted at the fairgrounds ranged from the success of the fair, the Farm Show, Pumpkin Village, the Zombie Paintball Hayride and the junior livestock auction.

Howard presented a number of awards to groups and individuals. Those receiving awards were:

The Friends of the 44th DAA Award is given to Glenn-Colusa Farm Credit, who provided many volunteer hours of dedication and support to the fairgrounds.

Colusa County Fair Director, Rober Viera is recognized for his years of service. “We not only wanted to thank him for his time, but for his dedication to the fair,” said Howard.

Volunteer of the year Award is given to Pam Niehues. “She was instrumental in creating the pumpkin village,” said Howard, “She continued to help during the fair, and even though she doesn’t like zombies, she loves Halloween, she helped with the zombie paintball event.”

Longtime Fair Volunteer, Bernice Dommer was presented with the Fair Managers Appreciation award for all her years of service. Howard commented that Dommer had an abundance of local knowledge about the fair and the community, than anyone he has met. Dommer has set to retire from the Colusa County Fair, making this her last event.

“We had a lot of people who helped out with the fair this year,” said Howard, “I’d like to give awards to all of them, but they don’t do it for the awards, they do it because they care.”

Howard commented that it took more than just a person or a group to make the fair a success.

“Without the help of the community, we wouldn’t have been able to do what we have done,” he said, “It’s not just sponsorship of money, it’s the sponsorship of one’s time.”

Howard proclaimed the 2016 Colusa County Fair as ‘one of the most amazing fair’s we’ve had in a long time.”
