Local Farm Fresh Eggs at Colusa Farmers Market

F2016 - Rosita Ranch Eggs (Color)resh from the Colusa County Mountains, Farmer’s Market quality eggs are an excellent source of protein and Rosita Ranch owner, Jennifer Diaz, stumbled into a business opportunity.

“We wanted to find a place to raise our daughter, living in the city wasn’t great for us,” said Diaz, “we discovered Colusa County, and fell in love with it!”

Diaz and her family moved to Stonyford where she has gifted two hens and a rooster.

“When my sister in law heard we were moving to the country, she gave us two hens and one rooster she thought it would be fun to have fresh eggs,” said Diaz.

Diaz one day found herself with a few too many eggs, so she loaded up her car and took the trip to the Colusa Farmers Market.

“I brought four dozen eggs down with me to sell, and I was sold out in less than an hour,” she said.

Soon after Diaz was receiving calls to deliver eggs, leaving her Farmers Market customers short on supply.

“We now have over 200 chickens, of all different types,” she said.

Since then her business has grown where she now provides farm fresh eggs to dozens of customers all across Colusa County.

“We are a certified egg handler,” said Diaz. The California Egg Safety and Quality Management Program has stringent requirements for labeling, quality, refrigeration, and tolerances in egg defects.

Diaz commented that she delivers approximately 25 dozen eggs a week.

“Last year I sold 600 dozen eggs,” she said.

Diaz added that Farm Fresh eggs often taste better than its store-bought variety and suggests everyone to give them a try.

If you’re interested in picking up a dozen local farm fresh eggs, stop by the Colusa Farmers Market, Thursday evenings from 4 PM to 6 PM at Veterans Memorial Park in Downtown Colusa. Or you can give Diaz a call at (530) 415-994-9082 to arrange delivery.■
