Two Colusa County school districts welcome new superintendents

Two Colusa County school districts have new leaders to kick off its 2016-2017 school year.

The newly hired superintendents of Maxwell and Williams Unified School Districts were welcomed by Colusa County Superintendent of Schools, Michael West.

“We are pleased to welcome two new Superintendents, Zachary Thurman for the Maxwell Unified School District, and Dr. Edgar Lampkin for the Williams Unified School District,” said West in a CCOE Memorandum.

Both Thurman and Lampkin began on July 1, 2016.

According to West, Thurman comes to the district with over 30-years of professional experience in the field of education.

“He was a superintendent and principal for the Janesville Union Elementary School District in Lassen County, and previously served as principal for Maxwell Elementary School,” said West.

Before his superintendent positions, Thurman taught middle and high school mathematics for 19 years.

“His vast experience, expertise, talents, and knowledge will be a great asset to the students, parents, and staff alike and will be a benefit to the academic success of the students in the district,” West commented.

West also added that Lampkin is a professional educator with 33 years of extensive experience in the field of Education.

“He has been a Migrant Education tutor, bilingual teacher, vice-principal, principal, program coordinator, professor, and the director of student services and English learner services,” said West.

West added that Lampkin had conducted trainings in Eastern Europe, Korea, China, Turkey, Puerto Rico, and across the United States.

“Dr. Lapkin’s leadership in developing and maintain the best possible education programs and services to students will be an invaluable asset to the district and community alike,” said West.

“The Colusa County Office of Education is looking forward to working with the new administration, and we are confident their experience will confidently move each district and the County in a positive direction,” said West. ■
