O Honey makes Colusa Farmers’ Market a bit sweeter

O Honey - Michelle Oviedo and daughter Ava at the Colusa Cert. Farmers Market06 (BW)Those looking for a local solution to satiating their sweet tooth need not look any further than the Colusa Certified Farmers Market.

O Honey, a small business owned by Michelle Oviedo, is serving up bottles the delectable, locally sourced treat every Thursday evening for the rest of the summer.

“We’re a really small operation and this is the first year we’ve bottled it, but by husband has kept bees for years,” Oviedo said last week. “There’s nothing added – it’s just raw, pure honey out of the hive.”

Oviedo Apiaries, her husband’s business, operates out of Williams, and offers pollinating services throughout the County of Colusa, she said. The resulting honey is pure, unpasteurized and unprocessed.

Oviedo said that she made the decision to start bottling honey after losing her job. Realizing that she needed a hobby to keep her busy, getting into the honey business seemed like a natural decision.

“It just made sense, since my husband was a beekeeper,” Oviedo said.

In their first year of bottling, O Honey produced about 450 bottles. The only place to pick up one of those bottles is currently at the Colusa Certified Farmers’ Market, or by contacting Oviedo via Facebook.■
