Pumpkin Village underway

2015 Pumpkin Village-16Seeds are sprouting in preparations for the second annual Pumpkin Village scheduled this October at the Colusa County Fairgrounds.

“The pumpkin patch is planted,” Colusa County Fair CEO, Jonathan Howard said enthusiastically, “and the corn is growing.”

In addition to all of the favorite family events, a corn maze will be the feature of this year’s event. Coming in both adult-sized and child-size.

The Colusa County Pumpkin Village will open for families on October 15 and 16 and students October 17-21.

“Just as last year, there are no admittance fees or parking fees,” said Hoard, “though some of the attractions will have a nominal fee.”

Last year’s Pumpkin Village was a successful first, with hundreds of Colusa County Students visiting, and about 5,000 visitors came during the weekend.

For information contact the Colusa County Fair Office at (530) 458-2641. Volunteers and sponsors are also being sought.

Howard added that the biggest news for the Pumpkin Village is that it will serve as the official host of ‘Spookley the Square Pumpkin.’

“Not only will we have our “growing” pumpkin patch where visitors may select and harvest their pumpkin, but you might also even see the famous square pumpkin in our patch,” said Howard.

Spookley, the Square Pumpkin, is a square pumpkin who lives in a round pumpkin patch world. The Legend of Spookley, the Square Pumpkin, delivers a message of tolerance and kindness. Spookley serves as the Official Spokes-Pumpkin for National Bullying Prevention Month. He aims to help stop bullying before it begins.

“We are so excited to welcome Spookley the Square Pumpkin and his bully awareness message to Colusa County,” said Howard.  “Stay tuned for more information on Spookley and his adventures that await you at the 2016 Pumpkin Village.”
