Movie night becoming a Maxwell summertime favorite

Park and Recreations Movie Night in Maxwell has become quite the event for the small town since its inception on June 25.

The inaugural run of the free, outdoor movie screen took place after the grand re-opening of the Maxwell Pool, and had more than 100 attendees. Since then, a significant number of Maxwell residents have shown up to partake in the periodic late-night movie screenings.

“The response has been good. We’ve had anywhere from 40 to 100 people show up,” Park and Recreations District board member Kyle Miller said.

Around 40 people were on hand on Saturday to watch the 2015 DreamWorks film, “Home” on Saturday.

While attendance last weekend was the lowest it has been so far this summer, the snack bar still managed to make the Park and Recreations District over $200, Miller said.

As a whole, the movie nights have turned into a decent fundraiser for the district as well, and the group has been running the snack bar and steadily expanding the menu.

“We’re now serving hot food, including super nachos, nachos and hamburgers,” Miller said.

The concessions also include ice cream, candy, and of course popcorn.

The next movie night is scheduled for August 6, and the Park and Recreations district will be showing “The Sandlot.”

Moviegoers should bring a blanket or chairs and plenty of bug spray to ward off mosquitos.

Spaghetti feed planned

The Maxwell Park and Recreations District’s fundraising efforts for the Maxwell Community Swimming Pool will continue with a Spaghetti Feed on Saturday, August 13.

The dinner is from 5 PM to 8 PM at the Maxwell American Legion Hall, and includes spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. The cost of a plate is $10.
