Car chase spanning three counties ends near Colusa Casino

A car chase that began in the City of Oroville and spanned parts of Butte, Glenn and Colusa counties culminated in Colusa County early Saturday.

At about 12:30 AM on August 13, Oroville Police officers patrolling the downtown area of the city attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near Feather River Blvd. and Bird St.

The vehicle failed to stop, and the driver, identified as 39-year-old Andrew Campbell, allegedly led officers on a chase, during which he reached speeds of up to 95 miles per hour through downtown Oroville, a press release from the department said.

After driving making several turns and circling his way back to where the chase began, he allowed a passenger, Michelle King, 39, to exit the vehicle. Campbell then allegedly sped off once again, and the pursuit continued through Oroville, Richvale and Butte City, when the Oroville officers turned the pursuit over to California Highway Patrol.

CHP continued the pursuit to the area of Colusa Casino. As recently as March of this year, Campbell’s place of residence was listed as a home in the nearby Colusa Rancheria.

After turning off of Highway 45 near the casino, Campbell crashed into a gate and “abruptly braked,” causing the pursuing CHP Officer to collide with Campbell’s vehicle, the press release said. Campbell exited the car and proceeded to run, but was caught shortly thereafter and arrested.

According to the press release, the CHP officer involved in the chase and collision sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he is expected to fully recover.

Campbell was booked into the Butte County Jail for felony evading/resisting an executive officer and on three outstanding arrest warrants. His bail was set at $90,000. King was released from the scene where she exited the vehicle. <
