Two arrested after high speed pursuit ends in Williams

At approximately, 3:23 PM on Saturday, Sept. 10, a Williams Area CHP Officer was paroling Highway 20 in an area west of Walnut Road when he observed a silver Hyundai traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed.

“The officer attempted to initiate an enforcement stop of the vehicle for a violation of exceeding 55 miles per hour,” said Shane Roach, Williams CHP public information officer.

According to the CHP, the vehicle failed to stop for the pursuing officer at which time the driver of the Hyundai began passing vehicles in an unsafe manner, causing approaching traffic to move onto the shoulder to avoid a traffic collision.

“The Hyundai reach speeds of 114 miles per hour as the driver attempted to elude the pursuing officer,” said Roach.

The pursuit was subsequently terminated do to it being a safety hazard to the motoring public. The Williams Police Department was notified of the pursuit, and the vehicle was discovered abandoned at H and 10th Streets.

A Williams Police Department officer located the driver and two passengers in the area of 2510 Engrahm Road.

The driver was identified as 23-year-old Kevin Ramirez of Santa Ana, CA. One passenger was identified as 20-year-old Bryan Ramirez of West Jordan, UT. The third passenger was identified as a juvenile.

Bryan Ramirez was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer and was booked into the County Jail with bail set at $5,000. Kevin Ramirez was arrested on suspicion of evading a police officer, child endangerment, obstructing or resisting a police officer, and for the possession of concentrated cannabis. He was booked into the County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
