LaVern Elaine (McCarthy) Rudow (1955-2016)

obit-lavern-elaine-mccarthy-rudowLaVern Elaine (McCarthy) Rudow was Born December 20, 1955, in Sacramento, California, to Joseph and Evelyn (Walker) McCarthy. LaVern was a long time resident of Maxwell, Colusa County, California. She graduated Colusa High School and attended courses at Yuba and Sacramento Junior College.

While raising her kids and taking care of the household, LaVern also drove a bank-out wagon for her step-father, Hans Tauscher, during rice harvest. She was a Teacher’s Aid for the 1st grade class at Maxwell Elementary School, then went on to drive the bus for Maxwell School District for about 21 years. She accompanied her children on many field trips. She also worked as the Maxwell School grounds keeper, and later as the custodian. She retired in 2012.

LaVern was involved with the Brushy Creek Ranger Club and attended Maxwell Baptist Church. Her favorite activities were reading the Bible, playing guitar, scrap booking, swimming, and talking with friends and family.

LaVern was preceded in death by her birth father, Joseph Louis McCarthy; sister, Laura Jean McCarthy; first husband, Kenneth Calvin Kilmer Jr.; step-son, Christopher Rudow; daughter-in-law, Angela Marie Kilmer; and step-father, Hans George Tauscher.

She leaves behind her husband of 16 years, Robert Rudow of Maxwell, CA; stepson, Rich Rudow of AZ.; step-daughter, Lynette Rudow of AZ.; son, David Kilmer of Maxwell, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Susan White (Joel) of Dunnigan, CA; and grandchildren Alex, Trenton, and Elise. She also leaves behind her mother Evelyn Tauscher of Coos Bay, OR; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Knight (George) of Carmichael, CA; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Tauscher (Jodette) of Colusa, CA, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at 11:00 AM at the Maxwell Baptist Church, 177 N. California Street, Maxwell, CA. A potluck lunch will follow services — Bring your favorite dish.
