NEWSPAPER PUBLISHED WEEKLY ON WEDNESDAY - WEBSITE UPDATED THURSDAY

Home News Editorial: Pioneer Review to soon charge 75¢

Editorial: Pioneer Review to soon charge 75¢

Since the Pioneer Review was launched in February 2008, it has been distributed free of charge. It is with great excitement, and a little apprehension, that we are making this announcement to our readers:  In October, we will begin charging 75¢ for a single copy of our publication, which will continue to be available at dozens of distribution locations throughout the county.
The Pioneer Review has, until now, operated solely on the generosity of advertisers and a handful of subscribers. That generosity has been the catalyst for the Pioneer Review’s evolution from a twice-monthly newsletter to the most read and reputable newspaper in our county. This patronage has shaped the values at the very heart of our publication: As a community newspaper, we believe ourselves to be beholden to the community we serve.
As such, we hold it as this paper’s obligation to inform, entertain, and interact with our readership. We have come a long way in eight years, and we are endeavoring to continue improving every day.
A key step in my vision for the Pioneer Review was expanding from a one-man operation to what we have today. Now, with a staff in place and ambitions to continue expanding news coverage in our county, I believe  becoming a paid publication is a prudent and necessary step in continuing to provide a valuable and quality product to our readers.
Since its inception, the Pioneer Review has never pandered to the sensational; it has adopted certain principles and been steadfast; it has made enemies, but it never bore malice; it has assisted in building up every enterprise started in the community and never attempted to tear one down; it is the only paper locally published for over eight years in this small community; it recognizes and appreciates the patronage of one and all alike.
This is a huge step for the publication and I hope we have your support.
I have never been one given to self-praise, but this a paper to be proud of. In the past few months,  we have increased our size and our circulation, we have added a sports section, and each week we continue to expand our coverage of this county.
Colusa County is ripe for a move forward, and the Pioneer Review is committed to being at the forefront.. We promise to be your entirely local newspaper; to publish all transactions of a public nature and solicit correspondence from every part of the county.
How can you purchase a copy of the paper? Over the next two weeks, we will be working with distribution locations including gas stations and local businesses to sell our papers. We will work with businesses on becoming business subscribers, and copies can always be purchased at our office in Colusa. Home delivery and mail delivery subscriptions are also available.
I wanted to make this announcement, so as not to catch our loyal readers unawares when the 75¢ banner appears on  our front page.
If you are already a subscriber, we thank you for your support, and you will continue to receive your subscription as normal.
If you haven’t subscribed or have been thinking about subscribing, or if your business and would like to become a distribution point or sign-up with a business subscription, give Lloyd a call at (530) 458-4141 or email lloyd@colusacountynews.net.
The Williams Pioneer Review is a locally owned newspaper that publishes weekly on Wednesday. Its primary office is located at 611 Bridge Street in Colusa.
