A 19-year-old Willits woman sustained fatal injuries following a solo vehicle collision along Lurline Road outside of Colusa on Thursday, Oct. 20, just before 8 PM.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old male from Maxwell was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Suburban east on Lurline Road, just east of Jameson Road at an unknown rate of speed.
According to CHP, for reasons still under investigation, the driver allowed the vehicle to travel to the right of the roadway and into an irrigation canal. The vehicle then collided with a tree and a dirt embankment causing the vehicle to overturn onto its roof.
Emergency personnel from Sacramento River Fire Department, the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, Enloe Ambulance, and the California Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.
The driver sustained major injuries and was flown by air ambulance to Enloe Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries. The passenger, Susanna Morgan of Stewards Point, was flown by air ambulance and was pronounced deceased upon arrival at Enloe Medical Center.
The CHP said it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the collision. The investigation is ongoing. ■
