A Williams man and suspected gang member was arrested on Sunday for attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a rival gang member while they were working on a supervised work crew for probation.
Santos Arin Mazariegos Rodriguez, 23, was arrested by the Colusa Police Department at 9:40 AM on Sunday, Nov. 20, on charges of attempted murder, a special circumstance of participating a criminal street gang, assault with a deadly weapon, and violation of probation.
“Essentially, they were members of a supervised work crew for probation, who were working at Saint Bernadette’s Hall, cleaning,” Colusa Police Chief Josh Fitch said on Monday.
“The two ended up getting into a fight, and one of them ended up stabbing the other,” said Fitch.
Both Rodriguez and the victim were from Williams, Fitch said, and the altercation and stabbing appeared to be gang motivated.
“The victim suffered a single stab wound to his abdomen, in his left ribcage area. He was transferred to Rideout, where he underwent surgery. It appears that he will make a recovery,” Fitch said.
He added that the victim was stabbed with what was described as a black folding knife, which was recovered by the arresting officer after the incident.
“We don’t know where he got it — it appears that he had it on him,” Fitch said. ■
