Christmas Tyme in Colusa; Friday

With turkey leftovers fading away, it’s time to soak up a season full of holiday cheer during Colusa’s favorite event, Christmas Tyme in Colusa. Held this Friday, Dec. 2, from 5 PM to 8 PM on Market Street.

Thanks to a joint effort of the Colusa Rotary and Lions Club, the evening of holiday cheer and community spirit will continue another year.

“Christmas Tyme is back on Friday night,” said Colusa Lions member and event chairperson, John Smart. Smart explained that, from feedback from the community, many said they liked the event held on Friday because people can attend the event straight from work.

Festivities start Friday evening with the lighting of the Courthouse Christmas tree ringed by carolers.

“It should be a wonderful event this year,” said Smart. “I hope to bring back the community feel of the event and have something for everybody.”

Smart commented that the stage, set at 6th and Market Sts., will provide a full program of entertainment.

“Stardust Dance will be performing, and Karsyn Gwinnup will sing,” said Smart. “The Colusa High School quartet will also be performing.”

Smart commented that he is working on a growing list of entertainment for the evening.

Once the tree is lit, performers will appear on the stage, and the street will be lined with vendors.

“We are trying to fill all eighty vendor spaces,” said Smart. “I want there to be something for everybody.”

Those interested in becoming a vendor are urged to call John Smart, at Arnold’s Allis-Chalmers, (530) 458-5125. The vendor fee is $25, and no charge for non-profit organizations.

“Spaces are filling up quickly,” said Smart. Call early to reserve your space.

Santa is expected to return with the Colusa Fire Department and will be located on 6th St. with the firetruck. The Kids Zone will return and be held in Davison’s Pharmacy parking lot.

“The kid’s area will have various fun activities for the kids, as well as face painting and outdoor bowling,” said Smart.

While the search for a quick bite to eat shouldn’t be difficult, Smart commented the Boy Scouts will be barbecuing hamburgers and hot dogs.

“I hope we have a large turnout and everyone will come out and support the event,” said Smart.

The Christmas Tyme group will be raffling a Weatherby 12G Shotgun.

“Tickets are $10 each, or three for $25,” said Smart. “The money raised will help benefit next year’s event.”

Smart added that tickets will be sold through the day of the event at the Christmas Tyme information booth.

“We stop selling at 6:45 PM, and announce at 7 PM,” he said.
