Colusa businesses decorate for the holidays

Judges, Jennifer Diaz and Jean Etchepare evaluate a decorated Christmas Tree inside Richie’s

Dozens of Colusa Businesses participated in the annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest held Friday, Dec. 9.

“We had 37 entries this year, about the same number as last year,” said event host Gerry Hernandez. “We even had some new businesses enter this year.”

Hernandez said that businesses were given the opportunity to be judged by the best door decoration, the best window display, and the best decorated Christmas tree.

“There were a few good ones this year,” said Hernandez. “All Star Realty and One Stop had great tree entries.”

Hernandez added that All Star Realty and the Book Worm had some creative door entries, and Richie’s Florist had a mentionable display.

“The library also had a tree made of old magazines; it was pretty cool,” said Hernandez.

Judges who were tasked with judging the trees were Jennifer Diaz and Jean Etchepare.

In addition to judging Christmas trees, storefront windows and doors were judged.

Hernandez commented that she loves hosting the Christmas Tree Decorating contest as it fills the community with Christmas Spirit.

“Driving through town seeing all the businesses decorated is wonderful,” she said. “After judging the businesses, it puts me in the holiday spirit.”
