Twila McDow Lovelace (1933-2015)

Neat PDF FileTwila McDow Lovelace passed away peacefully at her home in Colusa, CA early Thanksgiving morning, November 26, 2015.

Born on January 3, 1933, in Atwater, IL, to Viola Rohel and Charles E. McDow, Twila and her family moved to Delevan, CA in 1934.

While living in Delevan, Twila and her family resided with an aunt and uncle, Geo and Fannie McDow Corbin. Shortly after giving birth to her sister, Shirley, Twila’s mother passed away. She and her sister remained at the Corbin home and were raised by Buelah and Al Brian, the Corbin’s daughter, and son-in-law. They later were adopted into the Brian family.

Twila attended school in Maxwell and graduated in 1951. During her sophomore year of high school, Twila went on her first date with her future husband, Charles William “Bill” Lovelace; they attended a skating party. Later, Bill convinced Twila to marry him on June 20, 1952, and raised five children.

During their 63 years of marriage, they raised five children.

Twila was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother – a calling she aspired to, and one she performed exceedingly well. She devoted herself to taking care of her husband and their children – a mission never stopped. She enjoyed keeping track of each child’s activities with almost daily phone calls. Her family was kept close to her and another – no matter the distance.

Twila was a wonderful housekeeper and excellent cook. A favorite pastime was collecting cookbooks and recopies. She also enjoyed reading and crocheting afghans to give away. She will be remembered as being a loyal and devoted friend.

No November 30, Bill Lovelace Jr. expressed in his Facebook post the feelings shared by family and friends of Twila.

“Mom. A short, simple word but wow (mom upside down) those three letters are so meaningful. From the labors of childbirth, the caring of her newborns, the worrying of her teenagers and the never ending mothering of her adult children, that’s who Mom was. We lost her on early Thanksgiving morning and as Dad put it at dinner, she was a wife of more than 63 years, a mother and a grandmother, and a great-grandmother.

Her life was for her family, period. Like ripples from a pebble tossed into a body of water, her time here created future generations that will continue to grow. The phone rang yesterday, and my first thought was that’s Mom and I realized, never again. As I’m typing this, emotions are creeping in as reality is so lastly. I love you, Mom, we all love you, God bless.”

She was preceded in death by her brother James Brian.

Twila is survived by her husband Charles “Bill” Lovelace; daughters, Katherine (Robert) Roudabush, Susan (Ralph) Keeley, Lisa (David) Hickel; and sons, Charles (Cindy) Lovelace Jr., Marc (Kim) Lovelace; her sister Shirley (Joe) Madia; her brother, Robert (Bev) Brian, and her beloved aunts, Evelyn Rohel Swenson, Lorraine (Toby) Corbin.

She is also survived by her adored “Little Angels”, her grandchildren, Ashley (Jason) Parker, Hailey (Jonathan) Helton, Krista Lovelace, Ralph (Sara) Hayden, Grace Keeley, and Conner Lovelace. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, and nephews; and a lifelong friend Elanor Lovelace Beck.

Twila will be greatly missed by all who knew her and who loved her.

A farewell celebration of life will be held at the Colusa Golf and Country Club on January 31, 2016, 1:00 PM  ■
