He was a longtime supporter of the Kings and 49ers. He loved Colusa High School athletics and supported both the girls and boys teams by attending home and away games, and by being a Redhawk Super Booster. An avid athlete and outdoorsman, Jim did it all. He loved jogging, softball, hunting, snowmobiling, and biking just to name a few. His true passion was fly fishing; he loved spending time on streams with friends and family and teaching others the joy of catching a trout. After retiring, he enjoyed spending his summers in Montana fishing. There wasn’t a stream where he couldn’t catch a fish (even though it might be small).
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pam; children Robert Ernst (Lisa) of Elk Grove, Jerri Marie Galazin (Dave) of Morgan Hill, Ty Ernst (Theresa) of Carmichael, and Jamie Edmondson (Rob) of Roseville; 6 grandchildren – Danielle, Ryan, Peter, Abby, Cooper and Sam; and sister Joyce Speck (Jerry) of Idaho. He was ‘Uncle Jim’ to many more.
Above all, Jim was an honorable man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of family, friends and the outdoors. He touched many lives and those who knew him were better because of him. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on April 16th, 11 a.m at St. Bernadette’s Hall 745 Ware Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Colusa Redhawks Athletic Fund c/o Eric Lay, 901 Colusa Avenue, Colusa CA 95932.
