Memorial services will be held for Dorthy Jean Heuer, 91, of Colusa, at 2 PM on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Colusa.
Dorthy passed away on September 21, 2016, following a brief illness. She was born on Oct. 26, 1924 in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. The family then moved to Gaylord, Minnesota and it was there that she met the love of her life Wayne Heuer, a neighboring small town boy. Following Wayne’s Army service in WWII and recuperation in Colusa from his POW experience, they married in 1948. After Wayne had finished college and graduate work, he accepted at teaching job at Colusa High School.
Dorthy and Wayne loved their years in Colusa raising their children Robin, Hugh, and Matthew, and they enjoyed many wonderful times with the good friends they made there.
After Wayne’s death in 1983, Dorothy found great joy in spreading as much time as possible with her children, grandsons, and great-granddaughters. She continued to enjoy working as an instructional Aide at Meridian Elementary School alongside her good friend Dorothy McGowan, both of them retiring in 1990. Her many dear friends were always a great source of support, fun and adventure. Dorothy and Wayne loved to travel and even after Wayne’s passing, her travels took her all over the United States, and even to Germany. She especially enjoyed road trips and was a great navigator and she loved reading maps.
She was an incomparably loving wife, mother and sister and a steadfast and compassionate friend. She is survived by her daughter Robin; sons Hugh and Matthew; grandsons Jerad, Matthew, Garrett, and Logan; and great granddaughters Ashely and Quincy.
Nothing can fill the empty place in our hearts, but we take comfort in picturing her happy and dancing the polka with Wayne.
For anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory, the family requests the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Colusa, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation were close to her heart. ■
