Ruben Mendivel (1942-2016)

obit-ruben-mendivelRuben Mendivel of Tucson, Arizona passed away at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on October 8, 2016 following a long illness. Ruben was born in Ventura, Ca. on June 8, 1942. His growing up years were in Colusa County where the family resided for many years. Ruben was one of seven children. He was born the middle of three older brothers and three younger sisters. He served in the US Marine Corp along with his older brothers. He graduated from Butte College, Oroville, Ca., and went on to get certified as a Housing Construction Inspector. Ruben also served the communities of Butte County as a Butte County Sheriff Deputy. Following that Ruben moved to Grimes, Ca where he lived for approximately seven years.

After experiencing many bouts with arthritis, he decided to relocate to Arizona in search of year round warmer climates and moved to Prescott, Arizona where he volunteered as a Transportation Driver for the Veterans Affairs Clinics and was later assigned as Transportation Coordinator. Ruben then moved to Tucson, Arizona which he made that his home for the past 16 years.

He spent most of his years playing his favorite sport; golf, along with his brothers Ronnie and Richard as his partners. He enjoyed fishing, discovering buried treasure, digging and collecting antique bottles. He also had a special interest in the Cruiser Automotive Club, collecting and selling classic and custom cars.

He is survived by his son Gilbert Mendivel and daughter, Gina Arbsland (Dave), brother Ronald Mendivel (Connie), sisters; Virginia Frias (Sal), Elaine Lucero (Daniel), Shirley-Paiz Wallace (Glen) and numerous nephews and nieces. He was also survived by his companion of seven years, Myra Sahagun and her children Claudia and Jarrett. He was preceded in death by his son, Vincent Mendivel, parents; Virginia and Antonio Mendivel, brothers; Robert and Richard Mendivel.

Ruben left a lifetime of relationships and accomplishments and lives on by those he touched. Ruben was loved by his family and will be missed.

Services and interment were held at Morano Veterans Cemetery in Morano, Arizona on October 12, 2016.
